Covid-19 Update - Virtual Only

November 18, 2020

Turkey Trot Registrants,

We are sad to announce that we are no longer hosting the Turkey Trot as an in-person race next week. On November 16, Governor Reynolds signed a proclamation which bans this type of event.  The proclamation can be found on the Governor’s website: HERE

Because of this we are moving to a virtual format for the event, but also giving you options a registrant:

  1. Virtual Option: We encourage everyone to take advantage of the virtual option which will allow us to use the funds raised for our two mission partners: All Kids Can Orange City Area and Trinity Youth Missions.  To participate in the virtual option there is nothing you need to do differently. Here are the details:

    1. We will still have packets with a Turkey Trot gaiter, bib, and sponsor give away items that can be picked up at Trinity from 4:15-6:15 Wednesday Nov. 25 and Thursday Nov 26 from 6:30-8am.

    2. Run a 5k between November 19-26. We will have the start and finish lines marked on the regular course on Thanksgiving morning if you choose to run the regular course that day.

    3. Email your time to octurkeytrot@gmail.com by noon on November 26 to be included in the results.

  2. Defer to 2021: If you would like to defer please email us at octurkeytrot@gmail.com that you would like to defer your entry.

    1. Please note that if you are a sponsor entry this depends if the sponsor chose to continue sponsorship this year or defer the sponsorship to 2021.

  3. Refund: Even though this is a fundraiser, we understand that money was spent on a race experience and some will want a refund. If this is your situation, please email us at octurkeytrot@gmail.com to inform us. Our registration system allows us to refund, but we are not sure how long it takes to process. If you request a refund and haven’t received it after a week, please contact us.

Thank you to all who registered for being understanding. We had hoped we could pull off an in-person race, but feel our hands are tied at this point. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2021.

BELOW IS OUR PREVIOUS PLAN PRIOR TO GOING ALL VIRTUAL

Safety is our priority in this time of Covid-19 and after observing other races that have safely been run this year, our team decided have the race with the following adjustments/precautions:

  • Offering a virtual option

    • For those who want to participate but are uncomfortable in a race setting

    • Run a 5k between November 19-26 and email results by noon on November 26

  • Limiting contact at packet pickup

    • Weather permitting packet pick-up will be outdoors

    • If indoors then the facemasks will be required and a curbside option available

  • Limiting contact pre race and post race

    • The building will have limited access for restroom use only on race day

    • Announcements will be outdoors

    • No awards ceremony or food table

      • Overall awards will be given at the finish, age group awards will be mailed

      • A post race snack bag will be given at the finish

    • Timing will be done by video so volunteers won't be tearing bibs or keeping runners close together in a chute

  • Providing and requiring face coverings

    • When using the building for packet pick-up or restroom

    • At the start and finish

We highly recommend social distancing during this event by staying 6 feet apart from other runners and volunteers. We also recommend face coverings and limiting time indoors. With these precautions we believe the risk of contracting Covid-19 is minimal. We cannot say there is zero risk, therefore by participating in this event you are accepting the low risk.
